Aro has just touched Bella, failing to read her mind. I find this amazing because Bella seems very subjective. She is vulnerable to the powers of some vampires, yet she is immune to the powers of others. Why is this? What is the difference in vampires that either overcome her resistance, or are deterred by it?
Alice for example, has minimal trouble predicting Bella’s future, or rather seeing her decisions. But Edward is incapable of penetrating her mind and reading her thoughts. Also, Jasper has no trouble at all affecting Bella’s emotions through the atmosphere surrounding her. Yet Jane cannot best Bella either. This is all very strange to me because I don’t see why some are able to influence Bella with their talents while others are not. Is it arbitrary? Stephenie Meyer picks and chooses who can or can’t overcome Bella’s barrier? Or is there something more? What categorizes these vampires as such? I can only hope for a detailed explanation in future books.
My final note as I end my blogging on New Moon is the theme. Stephenie Meyer has definitely based her book New Moon on Romeo and Juliet. Sacrifice is a major element in this book. Edward and Bella replace Romeo and Juliet in a more modern and fantasy-based tragedy. Aside from the modern 21st century aspect of New moon, there is also the characterization to consider. There are no supernatural creatures in Romeo and Juliet, save a fairy tale Queen Mab.
Also, the presence of Jacob in the book represents a different side of Paris. And Paris is more understood as a major character rather than just an adding cause of conflict.
The best difference though, in my opinion is tragedy versus happily ever after. Romeo and Juliet, yes it is most unfortunate that they lived apart and died together but Bella and Edward fortunately did not share the same fate.
Which is why I am going to reread Eclipse!!!

When I read the Twilight series, I also was confused by Bella and her ability to resist some vampire’s powers. But I think as you read more of Eclipse and also Breaking Dawn the reason for her capability to resist is explained further. I hope you enjoy the next book in the series, Eclipse; it was my favorite book out of the whole series!
I really enjoyed reading the Twilight series, though Twilight was my favorite book in that series. I am glad that you like this series! I also like your comparison to Romeo and Juliet, and the fact that instead of two rich families that don't get along, it is the human-vampire thing that is preventing them from being together.
I haven't read any of the books from the series, but thats just me. hopefully you do like the rest of the books. They do actually seem interesting.
This book has always seemed so girlish to me but from what you have described about it I might be a little interested.
Sahar, I honestly think you have spent more time analyzing this book then the authors did. Granted I haven't read any of the series, but from people's descriptions of the series, it might be a little shallower than you seem to think.
I absolutely loved the Twilight series, and I also read New Moon for one of my books. I had never realized it, but agree that it is kind of like Romeo and Juliet!
Well Boone, that's just not fair! I am sure there is more to Twilight and its sequels than appears to the eye. It's unfortunate that a lot of girls don't "analyze" it. Sure, the gooey, lovey-dovey, sappy stuff is great. But the whole situation is mind-boggeling. You have to think about it. I hate the approach people have on Twilight. I honestly wouldn't care if Edward was as plain as the guy next door. It's what he does, and how he does it that matters. I think Twilight is a much more sophisticated version of Harry Potter. More "real" even.
And thanks everyone for the comments, never thought I would get one actually.
